Computing at Clehonger
In an ever changing technological world, we aim to give our children the best start in order to access the wonderful opportunities available to them. We have a Computer Suite where the children receive regular weekly timetabled Computing lessons where computer skills are taught. We also have a class set of iPads to enhance learning throughout the whole curriculum too.
Our children’s computing journey begins in Reception class, where children play fun educational games and develop their mouse control. As the children’s confidence grows, they gain access to a wider variety of programs and apps which, with the support of a thriving PTA, are being added to and updated on a regular basis. Children moving up through the school can expect to be involved in exciting projects such as film making, where they get to experience filming, animating, green screening and using iPads to compose their own music. Children also learn how to program devices and once taught the key features are encouraged to explore programs and apps for themselves and share expertise with others. It is our aim to try to enrich our children’s learning in our subjects by using technology wherever possible. For example, writing narrations for podcasts, scripts for videoed drama performances and animations and creating graphs and pie charts in maths.
At Clehonger, Year 6 children are responsible for the technology used in our daily Collective Worship and other school events. We are always keen to involve children in training opportunities too by creating Computing Ambassadors for our school, helping to teach new skills to their peers.
At Clehonger, we hold regular E- Safety days, where we dedicate time and resources to help children use the internet safely. Children discuss and sign annual E-Safety contracts, where they are aware of the computing conduct we expect to see in and around school, ensuring that our technology continues to help our children thrive.
