Welcome to Emeralds

Mrs Sage & Mrs Lewis (Class Teachers)

Ms Gage & Ms Dillon (Teaching Assistants)

Welcome back to the new school year and to Emeralds! We hope you have all enjoyed a great summer holiday, at least as much as you possibly could. We have some very exciting topics this year – please see our Autumn curriculum map, which will be uploaded to our class page on the school website shortly. We will be easing ourselves back into learning; initially starting with short, concise activities, recapping and consolidating, before introducing new learning.

We look forward to meeting you during parents’ evening at the end of this month – a date will be sent soon. In the meantime, school email is available, should you need it.

Kind Regards,

Mrs Sage & Mrs Lewis

School Uniform

This will only be worn Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Appropriate school shoes are to be worn this year.

P.E. Kit

P.E. takes place on a Tuesday. PE kits should be worn on that day to school – no bags to be brought in.  P.E. kits consist of black shorts/tracksuit, white T-shirt and trainers. A black hoodie/jumper is also recommended.

Homework Planner

Children will be given a weekly planner, which will form as another method of seeing how your child is doing in school. All homework (with due dates) and events will be added to their planner. CGP Books will be used for homework and page numbers will also be added to the planners. Please ensure children take care of these planners.

Children will be assessed as soon as possible and given their reading books. Children are expected to read every night and for extended periods of time, choosing a wide variety of text types from school and home. Please encourage your child to discuss the book orally, as reading activities will be completed in school. Page numbers read are required in their planners, ready to record back in the classroom the following day.

Children will be using a spelling scheme following the national curriculum recommended word list for Year 5 and 6. Initially children will be given 10 spellings, however these will be reduced if needed. Spelling tests will take place on Mondays. The spelling list will be glued into their planners. All children will have access to these spellings. Separate interventions will cover any gaps in children’s spellings.

Young Voices – Save the Date!

Over the next couple of weeks, you will receive more information regarding the Young Voices Concert in Birmingham on Tuesday 25th January 2022. Tickets will be available to order to come and see Emerald class perform at the Birmingham NEC Arena and of course there will be the expectation for the children to learn the songs both in school and at home.

Google Classroom/Emeralds school Website Class page

Children would really benefit from activities related to timetables, grammar, reading etc. On our class page, we have uploaded recommended sites for the children to continue their learning at home. We would encourage every child to access these sites such as TTRockstars and spellingframe. Half Termly Education City Activities will also be available for children to access at home – all logins have been checked but please let us know if you experience any difficulties logging in at home.
