We place strong emphasis on our Values throughout the school. As a school we aim to give children the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead healthy lives, not just through what is taught but also through the school’s organisation and whole school environment. Healthy choices are promoted across the curriculum; PSHE, Science, PE, including swimming, dance and gymnastics, Food Technology and Enrichment Cooking sessions.
Fruit
The school participates in the Fruit for School Scheme whereby children in Years R, 1 and 2 are entitled to a free piece of fruit each school day as part of the government’s campaign to encourage children to eat more healthily. KS2 (Y3,4,5 & 6) are encouraged to bring fruit or an alternative healthy snack to eat during morning break.
The only snacks allowed in school must be a healthy option. Children are encouraged to have a drink at break times.
Milk
Parents are able to purchase daily milk for their child using the Cool Milk scheme. Parents can order milk for their child through the ‘Coolmilk’ scheme – email: registrations@coolmilk.com
Drinks
We ask parents not to send fizzy drinks, juice or squash. Our aim, as a healthy school, is to encourage pupils to drink more water to aid concentration in the classroom so children are encouraged to bring their own water bottles which is always available for them to drink. Children are encouraged to bring water bottles with them to school each day which can be refilled in school.
Lunchtime
Lunchtime is a very important part of our school day. Children can order a hot lunch or bring a packed lunch. Our hot lunches are prepared freshly everyday at St.Weonard’s Primary, prepared on-site in their own professional kitchen. Food is served to our children in our dining hall under the supervision of our lunchtime supervisors.
From September 2014 all children in reception, year 1 and year 2 in state-funded schools in England have been eligible for free school lunches.
Children whose parents are in receipt of certain benefits or on a low income are entitled to free school meals, applications can be made quickly and easily by completing the online form on the Herefordshire Council Website. Paper application forms are available upon request from the school office.
We provide hot meals in School, there is a choice of meals each day, one hot, one hot vegetarian, jacket potatoes and a sandwich option together with a pudding or fruit/yogurt. Meals are booked and paid for on Parent Pay (£2.50 per day).
